Christian The Lion !

Hello !

I’m happy to share one of my favorite films with you. It’s a documentary film from 1970 called “Christian The Lion at World’s End”. It tells the story of two young Australian men who were living in London, England at the time and bought a baby lion at Harrod’s Department Store. The film shows their life with a baby lion in London and then later in Africa when Christian, the lion, goes there to live in the wild. Most people had never seen this film because it was not widely released after it was made. But then, in 2006, someone put a short clip on You Tube that got the attention of many people. Since that time, there has been a new book and the movie was re-released.

Click here to see the You Tube clip that got the film new attention in 2006.

This is what I wrote about the film for my class last year:

This clip comes from a movie titled: Christian The Lion At World’s End. It is a documentary film which tells the story of two young men from Australia who were living in London, England in 1969-1970. They went into Harrod’s Department store and saw a baby lion cub fore sale. They bought the lion for about $600 (at that time) and took it home. The men, named Anthony and John, were working at a furniture store called “Sophistocat” and living in an apartment above the store. They asked the store owners if they could keep the lion in the basement of the building where they were working and living and the owners said “yes”! So, for about 7-8 months, the two young men lived with the lion every day and took care of him.

Here is a longer video clip from the same film. This clip starts with the reunion – when the two men who bought Christian and took care of him for a year return after one year to visit him again in Africa. The clip also shows the other lions who were with Christian in Africa and the man who helped reintroduce him into the wild, George Adamson. Then the clip shows a woman visiting Christian’s parents at a zoo in England. And finally, the end of the movie shows Christian walking with George, Anthony and John.

Here is a longer version of the reunion clip plus another 5 minutes from the film.

Here is a slideshow with photos of Christian.
